Lake Ashi Hakone Area

Stop 1 (Day 1)

Your adventure begins as you depart from Narita Airport area where you pick up your campervan. Your first destination is the enchanting Lake Ashi in Hakone, a scenic drive of approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. Lake Ashi, also known as Ashinoko, is a caldera lake formed around 3,000 years ago by volcanic activity. It’s renowned for its stunning views of Mt. Fuji, especially on clear days. The lake’s calm waters and picturesque surroundings make it a perfect spot for relaxation and exploration.

Once you arrive, visit the Hakone Shrine, an iconic Shinto shrine with its famous red torii gate standing proudly in the lake. This historic shrine dates back to the 8th century and offers a serene atmosphere for reflection and spiritual connection. Take a leisurely boat ride on Lake Ashi, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the distant silhouette of Mt. Fuji. For a cultural touch, explore the Hakone Checkpoint, a historical site from the Edo period where travelers used to pay tolls.

Ito Onsen ( Izu Peninsula)

Stop 2 (Day 1)

After leaving Hakone, head to Izu Peninsula for the Beach stay tomorrow. On the way there are a few Onsen towns. Ito is a tranquil hot spring area, offering a relaxing environment where you can connect with nature. This drive should take about 1 to 1.5 hours. Ito Marine Town and the surrounding beaches are also attractive.

If you want a more lively atmosphere both as a hot spring destination and dining options, Atami on the way can be a choice to stay, too.

Kisami Ohama Beach (Izu Peninsula)

Stop 1 (Day 2)

On the second day, make your way to Ohama Beach along the coast line, located about 1.5 hours from Lake Ashi. Ohama Beach is renowned for its stunning white sand and crystal-clear blue waters. The beach is perfect for a day of sunbathing, swimming, and beachcombing. The gentle waves and soft sand create a relaxing environment for unwinding. Get a delicious beachside lunch at one of the local eateries, where you can savor fresh seafood and local delicacies.

Hirizo Beach (Izu Peninsula)

Stop 2 (Day 2)

In the afternoon, drive approximately 25 minutes to Hirizo Beach. This hidden gem is known for its pristine waters and excellent snorkeling opportunities. The beach’s clear, shallow waters make it ideal for exploring the vibrant marine life, including colorful fish, sea anemones, and, occasionally, sea turtles. The calm and secluded atmosphere of Hirizo Beach offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of more crowded tourist spots. Spend your afternoon snorkeling or simply relaxing by the water’s edge, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and the natural beauty of the area.

Mt. Kenashi

Day 3

On your final day, set out for Mt. Kenashi, located about 3 hours from Hirizo Beach. Mt. Kenashi offers a rewarding hiking experience with spectacular views. The hike to the summit is moderately challenging but well worth the effort. As you ascend, you’ll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape, including a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji in the distance.

At the base of Mt. Kenashi lies the Asagiri Plateau, known for its expansive grassy fields and panoramic views of Mt. Fuji. The plateau is a great spot for taking in the scenery and capturing memorable photos. The hiking trail is dotted with various viewpoints, allowing you to pause and appreciate the natural beauty around you. The combination of lush greenery, distant mountain peaks, and the iconic silhouette of Mt. Fuji creates a stunning backdrop that’s perfect for both hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers.
